So, as you can imagine, finding the best beaches across over 1000 islands is a daunting task…But we’ve given it our best shot!

Mike and I have a personal affection for island travel. We still aim to visit the 10 most beautiful islands on every continent within the next 5 years, and the Maldives was one of the most exciting places to check off that list.

From public beaches near Malé to luxurious private islands and unknown tiny specs of paradise, here are the best beaches in the Maldives.

29 BEST Maldives Beaches

The Maldives is a unique country, with nearly all the land spread across atolls with sporadic islands and islets.

These are often set on a coral reef but still surrounded by white-sand, picture-perfect beaches. Most of the best beaches in the Maldives are on private islands, meaning you can only visit them with a reservation at the island’s resort (We’ve noted if the listed is private).

However, plenty of the less expensive villas provide free transfers, a 5-star breakfast, a private beach area, and everything else you could ask for.

Best Time To Visit The Maldives

The Maldives is a beautiful winter destination (for us up here in the Northern Hemisphere). The best time to visit the Maldives is between October to April, when the weather is dry and warm, and the ocean is calm enough for snorkeling and other water sports.

Just be prepared for inflated prices and high crowds during peak season. We would book our resorts and tours as soon as possible because some places are at full capacity up to a year in advance, particularly around the holidays.

Worst Time to Visit The Maldives

The worst time to visit the Maldives is from May to October, their monsoon season. You can expect strong winds, heavy rain, and few water-based activities during these months.

However, the beginning of May and October can be hit or miss, so if you find some cheap flights, you could get lucky with beautiful weather for a fraction of the price.

    Maldives Beaches FAQs

The Maldives is an exotic destination, and if you are traveling from the other side of the world, you may have some additional questions. Here are some of the most FAQs we hear about the Maldives beaches:

Why are the Maldives beaches so clean?

Maldives beaches are kept so clean due to strict regulations on littering, sewage treatment, and marine life conservation. The government has also set up several Marine Protected Areas to help protect the local wildlife and maintain the cleanliness of the beaches.

Are the Maldives really worth it?

Yes, the Maldives are definitely worth it. The fine white sand beaches, stunning sunsets, and luxury resorts all make it one of the best island destinations in the world. Each island also has tons of activities like snorkeling, diving, and other water sports.

However, if you are looking to spend less, there are many alternatives that are similar to the Maldives without the price tag, like Fiji, Tahiti, and more.

Can unmarried couples go to the Maldives?

Yes, unmarried couples can go to the Maldives. Hotels usually don’t ask for proof of marriage but may require both parties to present valid IDs upon check-in.

The most impactful effect local customs have on the law is that you cannot wear a bikini on most public beaches – but private beaches have separate rules.

    The Wrap-Up: Maldives Beaches

The Maldives is an incredible destination that everyone should visit at least once in their life, and this list of the best Maldives beaches will make putting an itinerary together much more manageable.

Although we highly recommend staying in an overwater bungalow in the Maldives (COMO Cocoa Beach has some of the best), you can also visit the Maldives on a budget and still see several incredible beaches.
