Why A Magic Ears Referral Code Is Strongly Recommended
Here are a few reasons why it’s recommended to have a referral teacher to help you through the application process:
1. The Learning Curve
Using a Magic Ears referral code will ensure that an experienced teacher helps you understand the different teaching styles and learning curves associated with this company.
Magic Ears is also much more particular about the way we use enthusiasm in the classroom.
Understanding this difference will help you ace the demo and training sessions.
2. Demo Test & Training Guides
Another reason you should consider using a Magic Ears referral code is that you’ll want someone to guide you through the demo test and training.
The hiring process for Magic Ears differs from the VIPKID application process.
For my referrals, I include the best tips, advice, and guides to help you through these difficult steps of the hiring process.
3. Insider Tips
And finally, you’ll want to use a Magic Ears referral code because current teachers have plenty of tips to share.
These insider tips will help you get consistent bookings, higher pay, and more.
Is Magic Ears Hiring?
Yes, Magic Ears is currently hiring and in fact, they are pretty desperate for teachers at the moment (January 2021).
If you meet the required standards, you will be asked to complete the hiring process.
Once you’ve completed the hiring process, you’ll be ready to sign your contract and teach classes.
How Do I Get A Job At Magic Ears?
In order to get a job with Magic Ears, you’ll need to first meet all of the requirements. Here are the requirements necessary to teach English online for this company:
Note: These requirements are different than other online ESL companies, so be sure to double-check that you meet all of the necessary criteria.
Magic Ears Requirements
There are five Magic Ears requirements that must be met in order to pass the hiring process:
1. A Bachelor’s Degree
Magic Ears used to hire teachers without Bachelor’s degrees, but that is no longer the case.
A Bachelor’s degree is non-negotiable now, regardless of how much experience you have with children. This is due to a law that was set by the Ministry of Education in China.
If you don’t have a Bachelor’s degree, your application will be rejected immediately. You can choose to teach for Palfish if you don’t have a Bachelor’s degree.
2. TESOL/TEFL Certificate
Another requirement set by Magic Ears is a TESOL or TEFL certificate.
TEFL stands for Teach English As A Foreign Language and the majority of online ESL companies require this.
Luckily, it’s easy to acquire a TESOL/TEFL certification.
Magic Ears has their own $20 TEFL program that will work perfectly (for any online ESL company) or you can get certified through Premier TEFL.
I used Premier TEFL to get my TEFL certificate and it was quick, easy, and cheap. I paid $37 for my certificate.
You can check out the same certification here:
3. Native English Speaker
Native English speakers are welcome to apply to Magic Ears.
Recently, Magic Ears and other companies have opened up to hiring teachers from outside of the USA and Canada, however, they are pretty picky about this.
If you have citizenship outside of the USA and Canada and you want to work for Magic Ears, I would reach out to the company directly and ask if they are hiring teachers from your geographical location.
4. Not A Resident of California, New York, or Washington state
Along with many other online ESL companies, Magic Ears will not work with teachers from California due to the AB5 law that has gone into effect.
Since New York and Washington state have also adopted this law that affects independent contractors, you will likely be rejected by Magic Ears as well.
5. Reliable Internet
This one is a no-brainer.
In order to effectively teach English online, you’ll need to have a stable internet connection.
Magic Ears recommends 20 Mbps download and 5 Mbps upload, however, I have taught classes on FAR LESS than that.
To check your internet speeds, head over to this free tool: speedtest.net.
Note: If your internet isn’t very strong, an ethernet cable will help!
